Mr. Amit Sharma is a veteran and amongst the pioneers of the telecom industry in India. Mr. Sharma is formerly Executive Vice President at American Tower Corporation (ATC), is Chairman of ATC’s Digital Community Board and Non-Executive Chairman of ATC Asia Pacific. Amit joined ATC in September 2007 as their first employee in Asia. He built the ATC business into one of the largest telecom infrastructure businesses in Asia with ~ 75,000 telecom towers, $1.15 bn. in revenues, and over 1500 employees in India. He led ATC’s expansion to the Philippines and Bangladesh markets. Amit is a leading figure in the Telecom Industry and a prominent speaker at industry events in Asia. He is the Vice Chairman of the Digital Infrastructure Provider’s Association in India.
He also played a key role in the Indo-US CEO Dialogue, has been a long-serving Board member of American Chamber of Commerce in India, and a prominent player in Indo- US policy associations like US-India Strategic Partnershp Forum and US-India Business Council.
Read MoreAmit is the creator of the Digital Village program through which ATC uses its telecom towers and wireless broadband to provide Digital Literacy and eHealth to the underprivileged in 200 villages in India. The program provides education to over 60,000 rural school children every year and provides digital literacy training to over 40,000 older students. The program includes eHealth programs which are being piloted in 30 villages. This is now part of theWEF EDISON initiative, and Amit leads its global roll-out to underserved communities in LATAM/EMEA.
